It wasn’t that long ago that Donald Trump was tweeting about how former star Bette Midler was a “washed-up psycho.”  I commented at the time that such public drivel was unbecoming of the high office of President of the United States.  I wish someone could have gotten word to Bette that her efforts to prove the President right are not overly helpful.

If you’re curious what I’m talking about, you can be forgiven.  It’s hard to keep up with all the nonsense that populates our social media world these days.  But in case you missed it, Midler decided to launch another broadside at President Trump, and in the process, managed to out herself as a verifiable racist.

Here’s what she dropped from her account:

I don’t even think it’s necessary to do a, “Imagine if Trump had tweeted something about a ‘blackground,’” thought experiment.  It’s vile.  But what I find far more contemptuous is the premise behind her entire tweet – that no black person could support Trump of his or her own volition.  In other words, “all blacks must think as I do.”

I’ve said before and will say again that the degree of overt, unmasked, vile racism directed routinely at black conservatives is astounding and sickening.  The assumption of ownership of their bodies has given way to the assumption of ownership of their minds.  For a society that claims to be so racially conscious these days, how can this be allowed a pass?

No conservative herself, actress Kirstie Alley was one of the most notable voices willing to call out Midler’s racism:

To be honest, this is as bad as it was about a year ago when liberals like actress Alyssa Milano, comedian Pete Davidson, and TV host Don Lemon made racist attacks on Kanye West for daring to not believe “as a black should.”

The whole thing is grotesque and this entire mode of thinking needs to be called out for what it is: true racism.
