I saw it again, for maybe the 100th time, and so I guess it’s time to say something about it. “It” is the ridiculous talking point from progressives that in contrast to a Trump presidency rife with scandal, the Obama years produced only one: his tan suit. You’ve undoubtedly seen this nonsense before – it is regurgitated every time President Trump releases an ill-tempered tweet at an adversary and the Democrat-Media Complex goes apoplectic. Recently it was a leftist media group known as “Now This News” that produced a compilation of the Obama tan suit media coverage. They included this caption:
Really? I mean, I remember a great number of people on the right mocking the look of it, but losing their minds? And right now, at this particular moment in our republic’s history, is anyone on the left in a position to decry losing one’s mind over the executive leadership of the nation? I think not. Besides, if you watched the video that Now This produced, the compilation was full of news coverage that was anything but “Republican.” Nevertheless, what has always bothered fair-minded Americans about this left-wing talking point is that it trivializes what were very serious scandals of the Obama years, attempting to whitewash them – or tan-washing them, I suppose.
And the list could keep going, of course. That’s what remains astounding about this talking point being repeated by the Democrat Media Complex. The reason so many people continue promoting it is because the media refused to dwell on any of the real scandals of the Obama years. They were missing in action, perilously absent, and guilty of a stunning degree of dereliction of duty. They covered a tan suit more than critical issues that called into question the responsibility, morality, and competence of Team Obama. If anything, the familiar laugh we all share when thinking back on that tan suit nonsense, should remind us not of the supposed purity and innocence of the previous administration, but the inexcusable 8-year vacation America’s “free press” enjoyed during it. |
