The President of the United States descended to the depths of partisan hackery and outright lies recently when he appeared on Univision to condemn Mitt Romney for his support of the Arizona immigration laws.  The President didn’t lie when he said that Romney supported the laws.  He lied when he suggested that meant Mitt Romney supported racial profiling.  Remember, racial profiling is explicitly forbidden in the law that Obama is referencing...and he surely knows that given the fact that he’s got his Justice Department fighting the law in federal courts.

So why would the president do this?  That’s a pretty simple one for anybody remotely politically aware: it’s about winning the Latino vote.  Obama, like most all Democrats, believes that Latinos all think alike.  I guess if you think that all blacks and all women and all Hispanics must think like a Democrat (otherwise they aren’t really black, woman or Hispanic), why not lump in all Latinos?

So imagine my surprise when it came to my attention that Obama is engaging in a subversive war on illegal immigration.  While going out in public and supporting things that amount to blanket amnesty for illegals, the president has been working behind the scenes for four years to drive illegal immigrants from our country.

How has he done it out of the view of the mainstream, you ask?  Well, he really hasn’t.  We just never connected the dots until now.  Charles Hurt, writing in the Washington Times, makes perfect sense of it all.  Obama isn’t using fences – physical or virtual – to keep illegals out of the country.  No, he’s just been working overtime at making our economy so weak and unappealing that illegals would rather stay home.  Who knew?

Well, that’s one way to stem the tide of illegal aliens streaming across the border from Mexico.

Jack up unemployment rates to near double digits, dunk America into a double-dip recession and put us so deeply into hock with the Chinese communists that it will take generations for us to recover.

After long enough, living and working and trying to eke out bare survival in America becomes even worse than trying to get by in Mexico.

A new study from the highly esteemed Pew Hispanic Center says the millions of Mexicans who risked their lives crossing the desert to get here to the promised land for a better life have given up on the U.S.

This is no small feat. Have you ever been to Mexico? Not the ritzy beach towns with the gated resorts, but Nuevo Laredo? The dusty streets are filled with bony children selling gum and candy for just a few spare pennies.

I had no idea that Obama was such a virulent anti-immigrant activist that he would wreck his nation’s economy just to stop the problem.  Of course, Obama’s not the only one that has been tricking us with misdirection.  Perhaps all this reveals that those tough border security types have an ulterior motive as well.  Hurt explains:

Now we know why all the politicians in Washington have finally agreed to beef up security and build a fence along the southern border. They’re desperate to keep all the Mexicans from leaving.

That’s right, who would raise their children and mow their lawns and do all of America’s dirty work if all the Mexicans left?

Authors of the Pew report call the stunning shift in migration patterns historic. Not since the Great Depression, they say, has a shift of this magnitude occurred along the U.S.-Mexico border. Not since the Great Depression?

It’s almost enough to make you pine for the good old days of rampant illegal immigration.

Almost.

It will be interesting to see how this fascinating development and discovery affects the coming presidential campaign.  Perhaps Mitt Romney can ask the president what he’s got against illegal immigrants looking to make a better life in America so much that he’s willing to destroy his own country just to keep them out.  C’mon Mitt, go for it.  I bet Newt would ask him.
